He’s Gone (Robyn Bailley, book 1) by Alex Clare
He’s Gone is the first in the Robyn Bailley series. It is about Ben, a three year old, who goes missing from the local shopping center. Strangely Ben’s mother does not seem very bothered by her son’s disappearance. She also does not like the lead investigator. Robyn Bailley is transitioning from male to female and this is her first case back on the job. She needs to find Ben and also help people to recognize her as Robyn.
As mentioned, this is the first book in a series and I’m
looking forward to reading the rest. Thanks to Love Book Tours, I will be on
tour with the entire series so look for tours over the next few months. If I
had to pick a favorite thing about this book, it would be the title. It has multiple
meanings showing the two stories of the book. Ben is missing and Roger (now
Robyn) is gone. The author does an excellent job of writing a great crime story
while at the same time telling Robyn’s story of transitioning. Robyn has to
learn several times how important a womans purse is and to keep track of it. I
loved these details woven in the book. The premise of this series is very
interesting and I’ve never read a series about a person transitioning from one
gender to another but its important to remember when picking up the book that
Robyn’s personal life is not the only story in this book. Ben is missing but was
not be the only crime in the story. To me this was real life as police work
multiple cases at the same time. This is an excellent book and you would enjoy
if you like crime novels.
Author Info:
After nearly twenty years of being a committed corporate
person, Alex Clare was made redundant. She had always enjoyed writing, studying
fiction part-time through the Open University and managing to complete a novel
in her commuting time, though no one had ever read it. After a period focusing
on short stories, she wanted to try another novel. Inspiration came from
watching Parliament debate the Equal Marriage Act in 2013. Astounded by the
intensity of feeling generated, she created a fictional world to explore some
of the issues and attitudes
