A Secret Gift by Amanda James

Image
Happy Saturday and I hope you are in the mood for a feel good book today. I have the pleasure of sharing A Secret Gift by Amanda James along with Rachel’s Random Resources. Three years ago, Joy Pentire lost her firefighter husband and she still hasn’t returned to the woman she once was. But then she meets Hope, one of the residents at the nursing home where she’s a carer. Hope has a secret gift that she wants to pass on and Joy’s life is forever changed. Surrounded by the community in her Cornish hometown, Joy’s unexpected inheritance soon leads to new opportunities, new friends, new love, and the part of herself she’d thought forever lost … her joy. Review The premise of this book is very interesting. Joy can see auroras around people that show what emotion they are feeling. She is able to borrow some of their auroras and pass them on to others via pebbles. Seems easy. You see someone who is sad and give them a happy pebble. But what is the downside of this wonderful gift? What d

Christmas in Peachtree Bluff by Kristy Woodson Harvey

Christmas in Peachtree Bluff  is the 4th novel in the Peachtree Bluff series. I'll admit I have only read books three and four but both are amazing. The series follows the Murphy family as they go through life's ups and downs. Christmas in Peachtree Bluff  is told in the magical month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The family's plans are turned upside down when 'the storm of the century" is forecasted to hit Peachtree Bluff shortly after Thanksgiving. What I love most about this series is the writing style. You can picture the island of Peachtree Bluff throughout the book and the scenes as they are happening. I also love how much the family looks out for each other. There is drama in the series but it is not typically between family members. This edition is a perfect read for the Christmas Season (Hallmark Christmas movies started last Friday!). This is a feel good book you will want to read. As I said, I have not read the first two books in the series but the

Retribution by Heaton Wilson

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour offered by Rachel's Random Resources for Heaton Wilson's latest book, Retribution . It is available now wherever you buy or borrow books. DCI Jane Birchfield in on the case again. I've read Wilson's earlier book featuring DCI Jane Birchfield, Whatever It Takes  so I was beyond thrilled to read another book focused on her.  In Retribution,  DCI Jane Birchfield has a lot to deal with both personally and professionally. At home a recent engagement she did not see coming has her spinning. At work she is positive she will receive a well deserved promotion. Crime never stops but when a hit and run happens, Jane thinks it is a one time accident. Then more hit and run accidents happen and Jane and her team question if they are related. Once they find out all the victims are ex-military who served together, the next question is can they catch the killer before someone else is hurt. Review Wilson's writing style is fast paced so you get int

Sisters of the Great War by Suzanne Feldman

World War I is looming and sisters Ruth and Elise Duncan want to escape. They want to be free from their families expectations and life live their way. The only escape to to Belgium and the war. At a time when women were supposed to be at home Ruth and Elise join the medical support for the war. Both strive to live how they want, even if it not accepted by society.      Sisters of the Great War  is Suzanne Feldman's newest book publishing next week on October 26 by MIRA Books. Today I want to share the author's thoughts on the book and insights into her writing.   Q&A Q: What inspired this book? A: Sisters of the Great War was a four-year project that started one morning as I walked into my classroom at some pre-dawn hour. I’d been thinking about my next project after ‘Absalom’s Daughters’ and I knew I wanted to write a war story--but there were already so many books about WW2. So I thought, what about WW1? Could I write something epic yet intimate about that period? I wrot

Always, in December by Emily Stone

Image
Emily Stone’s debut novel is amazing! Always, in December  is a book about love and overcoming loss. This book is available in the UK now and the US on October 12th. Christmas has been difficult for Josie since she lost her parents at Christmastime as a child. Every year she writes a letter to her parents and on her way to mail it one year she crashes into Max. After making sure Max is ok, Josie wants to make it up to Max and they end spending the next few days together. Then on Boxing Day Max is gone with no explanation. This story follows Max and Josie as life beings together and takes them apart over the next year. I absolutely loved this book. I’m a huge Sophie Kinsella fan and this book is in the same genre. It is a great escape from real life and a wonderful read. I loved the characters and the multiple POV. The setting is the UK and the US. I loved the detailed writing that had me picturing the scenes. I could not stop reading this book. It is an amazing debut novel and I highly
