Tell us about your
book.
‘Janet Jackson Superhost’ is the follow up to bestseller
Janet Jackson’s Yorkshire B&B. Our eponymous hero, Janet, is a year into
the job and determined that her Yorkshire B&B will give her financial
freedom for the first time ever in her life. She decides she needs to be a
Superhost, this is what will make the difference to Lavender Cottage online and
its chances of success. To make it to Superhost, Janet will need hundreds of
five - star reviews and she’s out to get them. The only thing getting in her
way is guests and their unpredictable demands, habits and strange behaviour and
then there’s the other problem, Janet herself. She is such a soft touch, she
has her arm twisted again and again to let family, friends, neighbours and
bosses into the cottage who more often than not take advantage and leave her
out of pocket, emotionally battered and leave Lavender cottage in a right old
mess.
If it’s not her Shaman practising sister Maureen /Mitzi
trying to get in the door, it’s her daughter Chloe with party demands. Though
the biggest mistake of all maybe is when she lets her boss stopover for
Christmas, the repercussions of that one are epic…workplace romance? Don’t do
it guys! Though what about the neighbours from hell, The Watsons? Well trying
to host a domestic goddess like Laura is never going to be easy.
Through all the spreadsheets, laundry and damned hard work
there are some lights on the horizon for Janet too. After a DIY disaster,
there’s unexpected romantic possibilities with gorgeous plumber Mitch. And
Janet’s talent for baking really attracts attention once Chloe promotes it
online. In fact Genoa Scones, Lemon drizzle and Red Velvet cake turn out to be
Janet’s superpower. By the end of the book Janet will find her Superhosting
skills are going to transform her life and a new Janet Jackson adventure is
about to begin.
What inspired you to
write this series?
I was a Superhost myself for a while and the demands of
running a B&B are so unpredictable and fun, it inspired my decision to
write the series.
Do you have more
books planned for the series?
Not at the moment, I’ll see how this one is received. 😊
What is your least
favorite and favorite part of writing?
Editing can be tough, as it’s such a force of will and
determination to reach the end of the book and then being forced to revisit can
be arduous.
The best bit of writing for me is when the characters are
writing themselves and you become lost in the process, sometimes when you’re on
a roll it’s such an effort to pull yourself out of it and get back to normal
life.
What is the one
question you wish people would ask you about your books?
Do you have as much sex, problems, cake as Janet. 😊
It’s not easy to
write and publish a book. Can you tell us about your journey to publishing your
first book?
I took a lot of advice from online tutorials and was lucky
enough to get support from self-publishing guru Nicola May. I also used a company
Spiffing Covers to help with some of the practical aspects.
What advice would you
give aspiring writers?
Write in pockets of time, I was constantly trying to find
the day on which to write and it would never arrive. I have learned to open the
laptop and go for it whenever and wherever I can, it does become a habit and
all those words add up.
