Doctoroo & the Case of the Red-Hot Hawaiians by Dr. Rachel Wellner

IReadBookTours is happy to host the tour for a fun new children's book. Ideal for ages 3-7, all ages will enjoy the wonderful illustrations and story. This is a long post but well worth it. It includes the book, an interview with the author, and a giveaway at the end!

Blurb:

Doctoroo (also known as Dr. Marsha Roo) and her team―Kirby Koala, Louie Llama, and Terence Toad― may live in Australia, but they travel all over the world solving medical mysteries. In Doctoroo & the Case of the Red-Hot Hawaiians, they fly to The Big Island of Hawaii, where red, hot and very itchy hula dancers are in danger of missing their Big Dance Festival. Will they have to skip the Festival, or will Doctoroo help them in time?

Author Interview:

Your series features locations in Washington DC, Sydney, Australia and Hawaii. Why those three places?

The subject matter of each book helped to dictate the locations. For the first book, Dr. Marsha and the Case of the Missing Hot Dogs and Marshmallows, nutrition was the topic. I wanted to talk about picnic foods and good nutrition and the 4th of July is the perfect time for a picnic! And what more patriotic location can beat Washington DC?

The 2nd book, Doctoroo and the Case of the Hacking Hippo is set in Sydney, Australia at the famous opera house. I wanted to set a book in Doctoroo's home country.

This 3rd book, Doctoroo and the Case of the Red Hot Hawaiians is, of course, in Hawaii. When you're talking about the need for sunblock you go for the sunniest place you can think of! I also try to feature native animals for each location.

Your main characters are a kangaroo, a koala, a toad and a llama. How did you choose what animal characters to do and why?

All of them are native to Australia!  I'll bet you didn't know that llamas are also native to Australia.

Do you ever get writers' block? How do you get out of it?

If I get stuck on a story I put it away and come back to it later. If I can, I go for a run or take a spin class. Sweating helps to clear the mind!

Name 5 of your favorite movies and why?

I love comedies with strong female characters and a fun romance. I can watch these over and over!

1. Romancing the Stone – Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner

2. Bridesmaids – Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne

3. Wedding Crashers – Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams

4. Legally Blond – Reece Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair

5. The Princess Bride – Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Robin Wright

If there is one thing you want readers to remember about you, what would it be?

Writing these stories to teach kids good health habits is part of my commitment to humanity and especially children. It's why I became a doctor. It's also central to my core belief that you must find the positive in negative experiences and try to grow through them.
