Big Summer by Jennifer Weiner

Big Summer is Jennifer Weiner's latest novel, out May 5th. Everyone is going through so much right now with COVID-19 and Jennifer wanted to help readers escape into a good book. So she worked with her publisher to move up the publication date in order to get this book into readers hands sooner!

This book is about Daphne, who makes a living as a plus-size influencer on social media. Daphne is surprised one day when her ex-best friend, Drue, asks her to be in her wedding. Drue has the perfect life and has a ton of friends who can be in her wedding so why would she ask Daphne? Daphne accepts and helps with the wedding. Then the unthinkable happens. Drue is found dead on the morning of her wedding and Daphne is lead on a trail that uncovers a lot of secrets in an effort to find out what happened to her friend.

I have been a Jennifer Weiner fan for many years. I have read all of her books and LOVES the way she connects with readers. During COVID-19, she began an online book club on Wednesday nights and they always give me something to look forward to in this time of self-quarantining. When I received an advanced copy of this book, I was thrilled!

This book shows that things are not always what they seem. Drue appears to have the perfect life but after her death, things are uncovered that say quite the opposite. Daphne, as a social influencer, posts only good things on social media, but her life is not perfect either. It is a great reminder that you don't know what goes on behind closed doors. I think this message is especially important now that we may spend more time on social media and compare ourselves.

I loved this book and it is a great read to distract you from what is going on outside!
