Call Her Janie by S.R. Fabrico

It's my pleasure to be on the first day of the tour with iReadBookTours for S.R. Fabrico's sophomore book, Call Her Janie. This book publishes next week on June 27th so I'm giving you an early look. I've read the authors first book, The Secrets We Conceal and enjoy her writing style and that she is not afraid to tackle the tough topics. Enjoy my review of the book, an interview with S.R. and a giveaway to enter at the end of the post!

About the Book:

Meet Lizzie Levine, the unstoppable female executive at a top NYC marketing firm. Driven by the tragic loss of her parents, Lizzie refuses to let anything stand in her way – until a handsome, enigmatic billionaire named Gray Stone enters the picture. But when Lizzie discovers she’s pregnant with Gray’s child, she learns there’s more to him than meets the eye.

Desperate for a fresh start, Lizzie escapes to the serene coastal town of Southport, NC. There, she meets Josh, a charming local determined to help her heal and move on from her troubled past. But as Lizzie begins to rebuild her life, she soon realizes that her past is not so easily left behind. Someone with a sinister agenda lurks in the shadows, and Lizzie’s life is in grave danger.

With a writing style, that’s both eloquent and engaging, S.R. Fabrico takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions as you journey with Lizzie through the twists and turns of her life. Whether you’re a fan of suspenseful thrillers or heartwarming love stories, this book is a must-read. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in a world of passion, intrigue, and danger.

Author Interview:
What advice would you give a new writer, someone just starting out?
First and foremost, ENJOY IT! Determine what kind of writer you want to be. Meaning are you writing just because? Do you want to self-publish or traditionally publish?  What are your aspirations? Always hire an editor or two or three if you can. Have a professional design your cover.

Are you on social media and can your readers interact with you?
I am on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, TikTok, and Youtube. I do my best to interact with everyone on my page. I am most active on Instagram.

How do you handle literary criticism?
Genuine feedback that is useful to the betterment of the novel is greatly appreciated. No one wants to hear that their work isn’t perfect, but after I let the criticism settle in my system for a few days, I find it extremely helpful.

What is your writing schedule?
Generally, when I decide that I am ready to write a novel I draft an outline first with a general idea of what will happen in each chapter. Then I assign a date to each chapter to keep me on track for a deadline. If I miss a day I need to catch up by the next deadline. Sometimes I will sit for hours and can barely squeak out a few pages. Other times I will sit and write five chapters at a time. When I am in a groove, I don’t like to be disrupted.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I have written 2 novels, 5 guided sports journals for young athletes, and a guided journal for women. I enjoyed writing them all for different reasons, but I would say Call Her Janie was the most fun. I thoroughly enjoyed creating and developing the characters. It was inspiring as the story grew and took on a life of its own. I genuinely had a blast writing Lizzie’s story.

What is your favorite dessert?
My favorite dessert is cheesecake. Pretty much any kind.

Book Review:
Lizzie leaves her job as a powerful marketing executive in New York to stay with family in the south. No one knows why she left her New York life behind at first but we start to find out that she left that life behind to escape a bad relationship. Lizzie has an amazing supportive family and meets great friends in the small southern town. We learn about Lizzie's past in small bits throughout the story. I highly enjoyed this story. If you read The Secrets We Conceal, this book has a very different feel. It falls into the romantic suspense genre which I would describe as contemporary romance mixed with a little thriller/suspense. While Lizzie and Josh get to know each other Lizzy has some strange and scary things happening to her that she can't help but feel uneasy.

The author created a wonderful town for Lizzie to escape to filled with friendly and understanding characters. Lizzie even works in a bookshop, which would be an ideal job for me! I would love to live in this town with the many festivals they have and the great sense of community. There are several twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was thrilled to discover that this book will have a sequel in 2024. ALready I can't wait to get my hands on it! If you love a strong female protagonist with a challenging past you will fall in love with Lizzie just like I did.
