The Ex by Diane Saxon

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for Diane Saxon's latest book, The Ex. This is Diane's fourth book with DS Jenna Morgan, a police investigator. Diane knows personally about police work as she is a retired policeman. The Ex was published on 2March and it is a book to add to your TBR stack, even if you have not read the other books in the series.

Description

Sometimes your past just won't let go...

As a heat wave grips the country, DS Jenna Morgan is called to a domestic incident at the home of a young family in Ironbridge.

Pregnant Imelda Cheetham-Epstein has been found unconscious by her husband, Zak with serious head injuries.

When Jenna arrives on the scene, she discovers something even more disturbing - the couple's eleven-month-old son, Joshua, is missing and the race against time begins to find him.

Is this an accident to something more sinister?

Are the two incidents linked?

Or has something in Cheetham-Epstein's past caught up with him?

Review

I absolutely loved this book! It’s a story of a woman, Emily, who attacks her ex boyfriend, Zak, pregnant wife and takes their almost 1 year old child. Police quickly arrive and realize the child is missing in addition to the injured woman.

Most of the book is focused on Emily and her sister Fern. Emily beings the baby to Fern’s house. Fern is afraid for the child and does not think he is safe with Emily. As the story goes deeper we find out more about Emily and Fern and their relationship.

When I picked up the book, I did not realize it was part of a series. There were hints when flashbacks but I don’t feel I missed anything by reading this book without reading the other books first.

I liked how each chapter started with a date and time. I also liked how the story was told from the view of the detective, Emily, and Fern. Stories told from different POV really help me get into the story.
