Adventures with Allie and Friends: Chef Cherie's Cafe

Melanie Moore is out with a new series called Adventures with Allie and Friends. Join me for an interview with Ms. Moore to learn more about her and this book!

Huge thank you to Ms. Moore and The Children’s Book Review for helping with this tour!

Tell us about this book. Why do you want to write it as a series?

Adventures With Allie and Friends is meant to utilize curiosity, creativity, imagination, and social interaction skills as Allie takes her readers on various adventures throughout her community with each book as a different adventure for Allie and her friends.

What inspired this story?

Throughout my 20-year career as an educator, I was asked to write small social stories and create activities for various teachers and students. I realized I had a passion for using creativity to support both teachers and students. It was these teachers and students who helped me discover my passion for writing and creativity.

What are you hoping children take away from this book?

I want children to have fun with these books and enjoy the social interaction that comes from learning as they venture through Allie’s community.

What type of child did you have in mind when you wrote this book? Is there a target audience?

Originally, I wanted to target children with disabilities, however I found that this book can be for any preschool and early elementary student.

When did you know you wanted to write children’s books?

I played with the idea a little bit as a young child. I loved books with bold colors and wanted to create something for myself. It wasn’t until I became an educator when I realized this could become a reality.

What are some of your favorite children’s books?

I loved The Berenstein Bears series and The Baby-Sitters Club series as a child, and both were sources of inspiration for Adventures of Allie and Friends. The Berenstein Bears inspired me to choose bold colors in the illustrations, and The Baby-Sitters Club inspired me to take Allie on adventures through the community.

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to help with projects with the community education foundation, and in my free time I like to go work out.

What is your favorite color?

Red and pink!

What advice would you have for an aspiring writer?

Let your imagination run wild until you create something big! Let your characters show you what they want out of their adventures!
