Q&A with the Author
Q. What made you want to write a book about your
grandparents?
A. My grandparents really did live just two doors away from
me, and I was over there every day after school, and all day on Saturdays. I wanted the rest of the world to know how
wonderful they were. Writing the book was
a way to honor my grandparents and leave a legacy for them, and at the same
time tell them “Thank You” for their love.
Q. What did you find fun about writing your book?
A. I got a chance to remember so many beautiful times spent
with Grammie and Pupa. Pupa loved to
build things and Grammie loved to cook.
They were so creative, and they loved to share their knowledge of things
with me. I think that’s where I got my
desire to teach from.
Q. Do you have a specific place at home you like to write?
A. Oh, I have to leave the house! Otherwise, I get the urge to clean out the
vegetable drawer in the refrigerator. I
usually go to a local café and sit outside.
I set a time limit of 2 hours.
Then, I go home and walk past the refrigerator without cleaning the
vegetable drawer.
Q. What do you do
when you’re not writing?
A. I love to be outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine. I enjoy walking and looking at the beauty of
nature all around me. Oh, and I love to
play the drums! I’m new at it; right now
I’m learning how to drum without my sticks flying out of my hands!
Q. Share an anecdote of a time spent with Grammie in her
kitchen?
A. Grammie would host Sunday dinners. One Sunday she was making chicken and
dumplings in her pressure cooker. All of
a sudden there was a loud bang. We
turned around as the lid flew off to watch the dumplings fly out of the cooker
at a high rate of speed and stick to the kitchen ceiling. That Sunday we just had chicken.
Q. What do you hope that your readers take away from this
book?
A. I had an amazing childhood hanging out with my
grandparents and I wanted to share that experience with others. My hope is to have the child see and learn
about ways to play outside and explore their world with their family. It’s a great way to make lasting
memories.
About the Author:
I was born
in a small New England town. Growing up I lived just two houses away from my
grandparents, and spent countless days hanging out with Grammie and Pupa
playing games and gardening. I loved flowers, and still do. I would roam the
fields picking wild Lupine, Queen Anne's Lace, and, of course, Daisies. This
book is a legacy to my grandparents, a way of saying thank you for the sweet
memories. May you make sweet memories with your little ones as you read this
book with them.
