Review:

In this contemporary retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red loves helping her mon fix cars, defying gender roles and doing the work very well. When her grandmother’s car stops working Little Red takes off to lend a hand. On the way she encounters the wolf family - one after the other – all with car trouble. Little Red does her best to fix their cars using her tools. She struggles with the tasks but learns that sometimes you can’t do everything and asking for help is ok. A repair book helps Little Red fix the cars and Little Red has some very happy customers in the wolf family and her grandmother.

What is great about this book is it shows a classic fairy tale in a modern way and normalizes girls doing things that boys typically do. It also teaches that it is ok to ask for help when needed. This is an important lesson because when you are doing something, especially something that people don’t expect you to do, you may not want to ask for help and appear not up to the job. Looking for help is not a weakness but a sign that you use everything available to you to complete a task. Young readers will love this book because of the wonderful and inspiring story. The illustrations are perfect for the story This is an excellent story for all children as they learn lessons in a fun way.
